Leroy 'Pete' Peterson, 85, passed away on March 14, 2016. Pete was born May 16, 1930 and was raised in Weimar, Texas until he joined the Navy at the age of seventeen, where he served for 21 years in the submarine service. In 1959, his final assignment stationed him at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station NOTU and he retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1968. Pete went on to work another 20 years for Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory retiring for good in 1993, after which he moved back to Melbourne, FL to be close to his four children. Pete loved to tinker with home repairs and wood working, often helping his family, friends and neighbors with jobs large and small. Pete is survived by his wife of 43 years Lettie Peterson, his four children, Carol Hill and her husband Doug, David Peterson and his wife Terri, Thomas Peterson, and Amy Miley and her finance' J. Brewer. Pete is also survived by his seven grandchildren of whom he was very proud, Steven Miley, David Miley, Katherine Miley, Chelsea Hill, Eric Hill, Makayla Peterson, Carly Peterson, two great grandchildren and was predeceased by grandson Brandon Gray in October 2014. Pete also leaves behind his two sisters, Dorothy Ford and Linda Leister. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him. The family will hold a private memorial service that will be announced in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of St. Francis.
