Leroy Vernell "Red" Sanders, Jr., 65, longtime resident of Salinas, passed away Monday, January 16, 2012 in Salinas after a long fight with Cancer.He was born August 17, 1946 in Grants Pass, Oregon. "Red" was a pretty well known guy in Salinas, the restaurant, "Red's Burger Joint" was his namesake. Previously known as the "Campus Drive-In". He and his wife, Sandy owned and operated three similar eateries since 1977, until they both retired in 2010. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandra Sanders and his two daughters, Julie Leroy Sanders Aguirre and Candace Leroy Sanders; his son-in-law, Dennis Aguirre and his one and only granddaughter, Rachel Aguirre, along with his loved "family" at the "Red's Burger Joint - Anthony and the Crew; and his mother-in-law, Elaine Rogers. He is preceded in death by both parents, Leroy, Sr. and Mary Sanders, along with other loving relatives. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, January 23, 2012 at 1:30 p.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 22 Stone St., Salinas, CA 93901. Following the Mass, All are welcome to attend a "Celebration of Life" in Red's honor at the Church Hall adjacent to the Church on the premises.
