Leslie "Les" A. Hathaway
November 7th, 1948 - October 20th, 2022
Leslie "Les" A. Hathaway, 73, of LaFayette, went home to be with the Lord he loved, on October 20, 2022. He was born in Hancock, NY in 1948 to the late Lee and Elsie (Maudsley) Hathaway. After graduating high school from ESM, Les attended Houghton College where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Music. He then went on to receive a Master's Degree in Education from SUNY Cortland. Les was a teacher at Faith Heritage School in Syracuse, where he taught Math, Vocal Music, and Driver's Ed. He continued to teach Driver's Ed in the area, at both Branch's Driving School and MPH. Les was married to Trudy Wunder for 33 years, and together they raised three sons. After her passing in 2005 he later married Joan (Ireland) Pieczarka. Les was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather; and was well known for his musical talent and sense of humor. He loved bluegrass music and played guitar, banjo, harmonica, and upright bass. After his retirement Les could often be found on his tractor, camping, or traveling with family. As a devoted member of the LaFayette Alliance Church, Les loved the Lord and served him faithfully as a church Elder, and was also the Music Director for many years. Along with his parents, Les is predeceased by: his brother, Roy. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Joan; children, Mike (Dottie), Nathan, Owen (Amanda); stepdaughters, Shannon (Shawn) Billue and Jennie (DJ) Mahar; three grandchildren: Rovell Billue, Keaghan and Watson Mahar; brother, Mark Hathaway; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday October 27 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, LaFayette. A funeral service will be held on Friday October 28 at 11 am, at LaFayette Alliance Church. Burial will be private.
