Leslie D. Peats, age 73, of Lakewood, Colorado peacefully passed away July 4, 2018 surrounded by his family. From his birth in Colorado Springs on October 9, 1944 until his death, Les lived life to the fullest and made friends everywhere he went. He was the son of his proud parents, Eldridge and Veneta Peats and the proud big brother of Mary Ellen Peats. He is survived by his sister, Mary; his wife, Janel Doyle; his first wife, Hazel Peats; his children, Tammy Escue (Rob) and Ed Peats (Maria); stepson, Jeff Tilden; his grandchildren Joshua, Braxton, Justin, Alexandra, Alexis, Chanda, Ashley, Morgan, Jessica, Jaden and Sophia; and many nieces and nephews. Les moved to Denver in the late 1960s with his first wife, Hazel, and his two children and has never left other than to spend winters in Bradenton, Florida with his second wife, Janel. He had many careers throughout his life but most notable were his careers as a truck driver (first with Bowers Moving and Storage and then for Ideal Truck Lines) and a realtor. For many years, Les drove a truck during the day and honed his real estate skills in the evenings and on weekends. After retiring from trucking, Les proudly opened his own real estate company, Golden Eagle Properties Ltd. which he owned and operated for 18 years. He was quite proud of his role in bringing gaming to Black Hawk and Central City and being an integral part of the booming real estate market during those first few years. Les loved life and loved taking care of others. After surviving a heart attack in early 2000s and later beating prostate cancer, he started paying more attention to his health and exercised regularly at the gym. In the last few years he took an avid interest in pickleball which also allowed him to make many new friends. Les loved hosting parties and being the life of the party. He often had a good joke to tell and knew how to make people laugh and to feel good about themselves. Many friends of his often solicited Les for advice and help which he willingly and freely gave. He’s had a lot of life experiences which granted him a great deal of wisdom. Les always said that the good Lord hadn’t taken him home yet because other people must have still needed him. While many of us still feel we need him, God obviously felt he had done enough for us and now was the time to go home and reunite with his wonderful family and many dear friends who had preceded him in death. Donations to The Special Olympics (in honor of his sister, Mary Ellen) are encouraged in lieu of flowers.
