Lester Walter Marr
October 9th, 1924 - September 16th, 2020
Lester Walter (Marr) Epitomized his generation: a hard-working, churchgoing, family man. Born on October 9, 1924 in Bangor, Maine, and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, Lester lived with his parents Mary Parady Marr and Alexander Marr, brothers William and Harold, and sister Celia Marr Guanya. When Celia moved to sunny Southern California to escape the winters, the rest of the family soon moved, too. Lester joined the Army Air Corps during World War II and served as an airplane mechanic. There in San Diego in 1947, he met and married his wife, Kathleen Fowler Marr, who was the roommate of his older sister, Celia. After the war and several jobs as a mechanic, Lester became an employee of General Dynamics Convair as an electrical engineer. Later, when an engineer needed a degree, he was downgraded to electronics technician, and was employed there for 42 years. Lester worked on the Trident Missile project and the batteries for the space shuttle, among other things. Lester retired at the age of 65. Shortly thereafter, his wife of 43 years passed away from ovarian cancer. He spent the next several years traveling the country and the world, including walking the Great Wall of China. He passed his adventurous nature down to his three children Janice (Marr) Eisner, Julie Kathleen Marr, and Edward Alex Marr. Lester passed away to his next adventure with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, just three weeks shy of his 96th birthday. Lester is survived by three children, 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. He was fiercely loved and will be terribly missed. Rest in peace, Dad. Well done good and faithful servant.
