Lester E. Sandy'' Sanderson
January 28th, 1920 - February 12th, 2001
Lester E. Sanderson, 81, of St. Petersburg, FL, died at home under Hospice care on Monday 12 February 2001. Mr. Sanderson moved to St. Petersburg from his hometown of Oregon, Illinois. He was born in Creston, Illinois, and graduated from Rochelle High School, Rochelle, Illinois. He was the founder and chairman of Blackhawk Engraving Company in Oregon, Illinois. A photoengraving company, it grew dramatically into a company of nearly 800 employees in 6 plants, including Progressive Graphics, Oregon, Illinois; Wayside Press, Mendota, Illinois; and Blackhawk Color Corporation, Clearwater, Florida. In 1992, under the name Combined Communication Services, the business was sold to the world?s largest printing company, R.R. Donnelley & Sons. Blackhawk Color Corporation of Clearwater is still owned and operated by Mr. Sanderson?s son, grandson, granddaughter and nephew. Mr. Sanderson was an avid golfer and lived in several golfing communities around Tampa Bay before recently moving to The Cloisters Condominiums in downtown St. Petersburg. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Rogene Eleanor Ulferts; three sons, Darrell L. Sanderson, Palmetto, Florida, David E. Sanderson, Miami Beach, Florida, and Robert L. Sanderson, St. Petersburg; a sister, Leona Ellerby, Oldsmar, Florida; two grandchildren, Leann Corey, Boca Raton, Florida, and Stuart Sanderson, St. Petersburg; and three great-grandchildren. Anderson McQueen Funeral Homes and Cremation Tribute Center, Ninth Street Chapel, St. Petersburg.
