Lila "Palmer" Elaine Rawdon
October 8th, 1930 - November 7th, 2016
Lila Elaine Rawdon October 8, 1930-November 7, 2016 Lila Elaine Rawdon, beloved sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away November 7, 2016 in Newberg, Oregon at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd A. Rawdon, in 1992. She is survived by her brother, Gerald O. Palmer, of Roseburg; her son Thomas Rawdon, of Yamhill; her daughter Cheryl Doyle, of Pendleton; her daughter Lucinda Brown, of McMinnville; three sons-in-law, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Lila was born in Kampeska, S. Dakota where she lived until her family moved to Oregon when she was in high school. She graduated from Roseburg High School in 1948. She met the love of her life, Floyd, when she was just thirteen years old, and they courted through letters and occasional military leaves during WW2 while he served in the United States Navy. Floyd and Lila were married in 1948 in Roseburg, and they resided in that area until 1973 when they moved to Portland. Over the past thirteen years, Lila lived in Yamhill and then McMinnville with her daughter Lucinda and family. Over the years, Lila worked in retail and grocery sales, culminating with a career that lasted 25 years with Zell Brothers Jewelry in downtown Portland where she managed the third-floor china, crystal, and silver departments. Her time with Zells was a wonderful season of life, and her customers and co-workers were all very fond of her. Her favorite role, however, was of mother and grandmother. She was a woman of deep Christian faith, loved to sew, cook, and garden throughout her many years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The public is invited to a memorial service at the Little Chapel of the Chimes, 11667 SE Stevens Rd. in Happy Valley, OR, on November 19, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts of Bibles can be made to Gideons International in her memory.
