Lillian Elizabeth Landoe
September 14th, 1919 - September 10th, 2009
Lillian Elizabeth Landoe passed away peacefully Thursday, September 10, 2009, four days shy of her 90th birthday. She was preceded by her beloved husband Ted on March 26, 2007. They had three sons, eighteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grand children. Their sons, Jim, Matt and Sig, count themselves blessed beyond measure to be part of their family. Lillian also loved her daughters-in-law Leslie, Cindy, and Terri. Lillian and Ted loved their family and were active members of Peace Lutheran Church for over 43 years. They faithfully drove their boys to Luther League on Wednesday nights. That dedicated service contributed to their sons obtaining a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ and his role as their Savior and Redeemer. Lillian and Ted will be long remembered by their posterity with love, gratitude, and deep affection. Lillian was born September 14, 1919 in Seattle to Odin and Hilda Nelson, Norwegian immigrants. She was the oldest and last surviving member of her immediate family. Her younger siblings, Jackie and Ralph, both preceded her. Lillian spent her childhood in Ketchikan, Alaska. Her father was a fisherman. She had many wonderful memories of growing up in Alaska that included fishing and building a log cabin club house with her brother Ralph. She spoke Norwegian at home, and was held back in school for two years until she learned to speak English and was placed in third grade. She was Salutatorian of her graduating class at Ketchikan High School, and graduated from the University of Washington School of Nursing. She served as a Navy Nurse during World War II in the South Pacific, and later as a Public Health Nurse. After retiring from nursing, she enjoyed serving the Puyallup Indian Tribe volunteering post-natal care and instruction to new mothers. Lillian also enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles. She is much beloved by her children and posterity. They look forward to coming forth in the Resurrection to continue the strong family ties in eternity that she cultivated during her time on earth. A celebration honoring her life will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 214 East Pioneer Avenue, Puyallup, WA 98405. Memorials in Lillian's name may be donated to the Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery.
