To: The Charlotte Observer Death Notices For Wednesday's edition, 5/1/13 with attached photograph Code: 147184 Linda Schuster Rutledge Longtime Charlotte resident, Linda Schuster Rutledge passed away suddenly last week on April 26, 2013 at her home in Matthews. Ms. Rutledge had been a resident of the Charlotte area since 1969. Linda was born March 10, 1943 in Leominster, MA. and attended school at Leominster High School, Class of 1961, She retired from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System in 2005 after 21 years of service. A civic minded resident, Ms. Rutledge volunteered at the Shepherd Center, driving people to doctors' appointments. She and her husband, the late Allan R. Rutledge, had been foster parents while their children were growing up. In retirement, Linda spent time attending the sporting events, recitals, and school activities of her six grandchildren, all in the Charlotte area. Travel was a particular hobby of Linda, whether it was international travel with friends, or spending time at the beach with her family. Linda is survived by her son, Allan, and daughter, Michelle McLauchlan, along with their spouses, Allyson and Mark. Grandchildren Zachary, Jessica, and Sydney Rutledge, and Bennett, Molly, and Will McLauchlan, were revered by "Grandma Linda". Ms. Rutledge also leaves two sisters, Janice Nixon, of New Jersey and Charlene Nosar, of Virginia. She will be missed by friends and family whose lives were touched by her friendly smile and infectious laugh. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 P.M. Friday, May 3, 2013 in the Chapel of J.B. Tallent Funeral Service, 1937 Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte with The Reverend Scott Whittle officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:30 P.M. prior to the service.
