Lloyd Bertram Campbell was born on September 2, 1928 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He immigrated to Carmel with his family in 1949. He continued being a Canadian citizen until 1996 when he became an American. Together with his father, George, they established Campbell & Son, an upholstery business in Carmel in the early 1950's. He met and married Jeni DePersis in 1950. At the young age of 11 he finished building his family home with instructions shouted from the ground by his father who was injured and couldn't help. A seed was planted. By 1956 he launched full time into building houses. Lloyd along with his sons, Russell and Douglas, built many homes stretching from Big Sur to Monterey until retiring in 1993. He was a mentor and inspiration to many young builders. In the 1960's Lloyd became a partner in a boat resort venture in the Canadian Puget Sound. Vacations were spent on South Pender Island in a log cabin while he built Bedwell Harbour resort nearby. In his younger years he was an avid square dancer with his wife, Jeni. Soon they became active in the Model A Ford car club (GRAMPA). He had many antique cars over the years. Antique gas tanks adorned his home along with railroad, Route 66 and antique car memorabilia. He traveled a couple of times across the United States in a Model A Ford and other antique cars. He loved music, especially big band orchestra and Dixieland music. He played trumpet and was chosen to be in the Kitsilano Boys Band in Canada which was a great honor. He even had his own band, "The Lloyd Campbell's Teenage Orchestra" in high school. He continued playing the trumpet in the MPC Concert Band in the 1950's. He loved his friends and family, making great effort to keep in touch and visit them. After retirement he loved chopping wood with his buddy, Don. He was an avid reader. He died at home surrounded by family. Thanks to Heartland Hospice for the support and help. He is survived by seven children: Gayle Campbell, Russell (Karen) Campbell, Douglas (Kimi) Campbell, Anita (David) Mitchell, Deanna Jones, and Jeanette Campbell, all of Carmel; Maureen (Phil) Pardue of McLean, Virginia and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeni in 1993.

Healey Mortuary

At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
