Lois Lucille Bickel

April 29th, 1926 - July 17th, 2013

The soul of Lois Bickel left her body on July 17th for a grand reunion with her husband Jack (Dewey), her brother (Don), her sisters (Dorothy and Muriel), her sons, Dennis (infant), Jerry and Tim. Lois was the oldest sibling born on April 29, 1926 to Everett and Hilda Finney. She met the love of her life while visiting grandmother Dreyer in Willow City, ND. Jack and Lois were married on May 30, 1944 in Beaverton, Oregon at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. They moved to Aloha in 1955 and resided there until Lois had a stroke in 2010 when she moved to Farmington Square Assisted Living. She raised four children with her beloved husband Jack and began again extending her warmth and support as eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren found her hands of faith were extended to love, train and teach them joys of the garden, the kitchen and a walk in the great outdoors. We rejoice that she now loves laughs and lives in health and happiness. This is but an extension of what she left to us. Lois worked for over 25 years as a food service as a food service manager for the Beaverton School District, but her first love was that of a homemaker, and there she left her mark with all that shared in her crowning work. Few cooks will rival her ability in the kitchen where the smell of some delicious baked goods in her oven, or amid the mess of children and counters dappled with blackberries as she taught three generations to cook, can and care for the good things from the earth. The memories she has left us with of faith in God, home, a lifetime of support, the pure enjoyment of simple things, the gathering of families and friends for a cup of coffee or a grand Thanksgiving spread, will be treasured forever. Lois leaves behind daughters Sherry (Bruce) Abrahamson of Tigard, Susan (Fred) Blauer of Beaverton, daughter in law Linda Bickel (Tim) of Wilsonville, and god daughter Karen (Douglas) Bernhardt family. We wish we had room to name all of those that found Lois a true friend, surrogate mother, or beloved member of her extended family but whenever possible they were found visiting her beside as she prepared to reunite with those who left before her. The love and support extended to neighbors, friends and countless others that served alongside of her at her second home, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she and Jack were charter members, will be cherished and appreciated by all that loved and respected her true example of a loving Christian servant. Lois passed away in the evening of July 17th after a day filled with loved ones coming to say their goodbyes. This was the kind of day she cherished, all her favorite people together sharing stories and great memories of wonderful times. With loving memory of Lois Bickel, the woman always in the kitchen window. We will forever miss you, but know that you are in God’s hands. There will be a “Celebration of Life” at 11 AM on Monday, August 26th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church 18865 SW Johnson St. in Aloha. Thanks to the wonderful, loving caregivers at Farmington Square Assisted Living. Private burial at Willamette National Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
