Lois Clemmons Hunter

March 30th, 1924 - August 19th, 2024

Surrounded by loved ones, Lois C. Hunter passed away on August 19, 2024 at Guilford House Assisted Living and Memory Care in Greensboro, NC. She was 100 years old.

On March 30, 1924 Lois Marjorie Clemmons Hunter was born to the late John and Elisie Joyner Clemmons in Southport, NC. Her initial education was through the Brunswick County Schools. She furthered her education and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Commercial Education from A&T State University as well as a Master’s Degree in Business Education from The University of NC at Greensboro. Further studies took place at New York State University in Albany, NY.

She is preceded in death by three out of four siblings: Norma, Robert, and Rufus. Lois is also preceded in death by her dearly departed Husband John Henry Hunter (originally from Wilmington, NC) She is survived by a Sister, Elsie Simpson of Colorado Springs, CO, as well as her loving and devoted Son and only child Mario L. Hunter (Helen Marie) of the Greensboro Hunter Family home. Lois was adored and will be sorely missed by a host of (First/Second) Cousins, (Grand) Nieces and (Grand) Nephews.

Lois would often say “bye” after chatting with you but not until she left the following instructions (Especially to Mario and his neighborhood friends back in the day): “Keep your bible open!" "Be ye of good courage and wait upon The Lord!”

God and Family were first and foremost in her life. She was a dutiful and excellent Church Musician (Voice and Piano) and Administrator within the Presbyterian Church, USA for over 50 years Lois was a very “proud to be one”, if you will, when it came to her seemingly lifelong duties as a Delta. Within that organization she served as President, Secretary, and Treasurer of Delta Pi Epsilon Business Fraternity (Zeta Chapter) and thereafter served as Secretary for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

During her illustrious career, Lois also held many important positions with The Association of Classroom Teachers (District 7) including President and she was chairman of the Public Relations Committee for The North Carolina Association of Educators.

The genuine concern and caring that Lois had for young people was awesome!!! She lifted up several hundreds of young lives as a Business/Typing Teacher at the then Lincoln Jr. High School (Greensboro Public Schools) and later became a Classroom Teacher and Chairman of the Business Department at Ben L. Smith High School.

All that aside, Lois will be so dearly missed by so many people that loved her because she always sparkled, had a heart of Gold and would never hesitate to extend or lend a hand whether one was in need or not. She’s with the Lord now. Let us rejoice then and thank The Lord that we were blessed to be in the presence of Lois Clemmons Hunter, a wonderful Woman of God.
