Lonnie Roosevelt Oaks
June 26th, 1939 - April 29th, 2015
Lonnie Roosevelt Oaks Jr, 75 of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Indian Path Medical Center after a short illness. He was born on June 26, 1939 in Banner Elk, NC to the late Lonnie Sr. and Mary Oaks. Lonnie attended Lynn View High School. He was the owner/operator of Tri-City Cab Co. for 24 years and was also a referee and umpire for city league ball for many years. Lonnie attended Living Word Church of God. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn (Short) Oaks; infant sister, Patsy Ruth Oaks; brother, Ray "Buster" Oaks; great grandson, David M. Dorton. Survivors include his four daughters, Rebecca Oaks, Deborah Wampler and husband Terry, Lisa Oaks, and Teresa Dorton; two sons Jerry Oaks and wife Syonia, Jonathan Oaks and fiancée Brianna Allmon; Nine grandchildren; Charsie Reed; Christopher Reed, Robert Dorton, Jacob Oaks, Harlee Brown, Sara Lester, Hunter Stapleton, and Joseph Oaks; special grandson; little Jerry Oaks Jr; 12 great grandchildren; sister Nancy Oaks; brothers, J.B. Oaks and wife Locella, Harold Oaks and lady Patsy, Doug Oaks and wife Kathy; along with several nieces and nephews; special companion Sugar (dog). The family will receive friends on Monday, May 4, 2015 from 5pm to 7pm at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Elder Oscar Irvin and Pastor Steve Guinn officiating. A graveside service will be conducted 2pm Tuesday May, 5, 2015 at Hite Cemetery, with friends and family serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:15 pm to go in procession to the cemetery. Carter-Trent Funeral Home downtown, Kingsport is serving the Oaks family.
