Loren Wayne Bartlett
February 7th, 1932 - September 28th, 2011
Dr. Loren Bartlett, 79, passed away on Sept. 28, 2011 at Life Care Center in Greeley. He was born Feb. 7, 1932 to Willard and Ella (Stevens) Bartlett in Dallas, Oregon. He attended Eastern Washington State University, Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio and University of Iowa in Iowa City, where he received a Ph.D. in music. From 1955-1965 he taught music at Arkansas Polytechnic University in Russellville, Arkansas, performing as first bassoonist with the Arkansas Symphony. In 1961, he married Lois Ann Fox in Dubuque, Iowa and they moved to Greeley in 1965, where he taught at Colorado State College, now the University of Northern Colorado, until 1992. During that time, he was chairman of the Woodwind Department in the School of Music for 18 years, performing as first bassoonist with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra for 23 years. He regularly performed in woodwind ensembles and as a soloist on five woodwind instruments, throughout his career. He had served as a board member of the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, the Greeley Children's Theatre and Campus Crusade for Christ. He was vice president of the founding board of Dayspring Christian Schools in Greeley. At First Prebysterian Church in Greeley, he served as a deacon, taught bible studies, was a coordinator of senior adult ministries and sang in the choir. He loved Jesus, his Savior. He enjoyed raising his four children on an acreage east of Greeley. He and Lois divorced. He later enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities. He married Lorraine (Appeldorn) Reese in 1988. Lorraine was also a teacher and both of them retired in 1992 and enjoyed their large combined family, a mountain cabin they built together near Red Feather Lakes and traveling extensively thoughout the U.S. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; sons, Mark (Becky) of Monument, CO, and Kent of Fort Collins; daughters, Karen (Dan) Trevino of Greeley and Sarah (Chad) Schneider of Fort Collins; brother Ron (Gloria) Bartlett of Medford, OR; 10 grandchildren, Josh, Eric, Audrey, Andrew and Brandon Trevino all of Greeley, Emma, Laura and Ian Bartlett of Monument, and Dylan and Evan Schneider of Fort Collins; stepson, David (Shelley) Reese of Houston, TX; three stepdaughters, Jean (Doug) Hartman of Trapper Creek, AK, Marcia (Robert) Anderson of Glacier View Meadows, CO, and Verna (Robert) Orsatti of Wheatridge, CO; 6 step-grandchildren and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, Oct. 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at First Prebysterian Church in Greeley, with inurnment at Linn Grove Cemetery.
