Loren "Grumpy" Havener Hutchins, III
August 27th, 1938 - March 3rd, 2024

Loren Havener Hutchins III, aged 85, or “Grumpy” as his grandsons called him, passed away peacefully in hospice care in Colorado Springs, CO, on March 3, 2024.
Born on August 27, 1938, in Boston, MA, Loren was the eldest son of Isabel Woodward and Loren Havener Hutchins, Jr. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Alan Hutchins of Tampa, FL, and Phillip Hutchins of Laguna Beach, CA.
Loren graduated from Acadia University in Nova Scotia in 1963 with a degree in philosophy. His distinguished multi-state education career spanned a total of 38 years as both a middle and high-school math teacher, starting his teaching career in New Hampshire. Loren taught for 14 years in School District 2 in Colorado Springs, CO, and ended his career teaching in Las Vegas, NV. He also served as a middle school vice principal. In New Hampshire, Loren was the president of the Seacoast Education Association, a member of the Hampton Planning Board, and President of the Seacoast Conservation Commission. He also served as Assistant Pastor at Hampton Falls Baptist Church for ten years and served several churches preaching and teaching Bible study classes. His favorite Bible verse was, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11
In his free time, Loren enjoyed woodworking, chess, music, reading, philosophy, and theology. He loved family vacations to Hawaii, New Hampshire, and Disney World and cherished time spent with dear friends and loved ones.
Loren is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sandra; and his two children, Liesl Hutchins Eberhardt (Eric) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Loren Havener Hutchins IV (Audra) of Parker, CO. He is also survived by his four grandsons: Loren Havener Hutchins V (Lauren) of Fort Collins, CO, Cody Tyler Hutchins (Alex) of Colorado Springs, CO, Joshua Trent Hutchins of Parker, CO, and Drake Herod of Denver, CO.Loren’s legacy will live on through his family and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him in life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 8th at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church Colorado Springs.
An online memorial has been created to share memories, photos, and stories of Loren: Forever Missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice in Loren’s memory. Some of the family’s favorites are: A Living Tribute; National Mill Dog Rescue, or Samaritan’s Purse.
