Lorene Mabel Cameron At ninety and one-half years of life Lorene Mabel Cameron decided to go home to be with Jesus, to be greeted by her son, Gerald, her parents and siblings. Born in Woodruff, Kansas, on August 10, 1922 to Reverend Lawrence Owen Flynn and Dora Mabel (Swigart) Flynn. Lorene was the third of six children. Her father was a circuit preacher for the Evangelical Church and they traveled to many places in Nebraska, Montana, & Colorado. Graduating from High School in Colorado, Lorene headed to Nampa to attend Northwest Nazarene College where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She met and married Oliver Cameron between her Junior & Senior year of college. They lived in Nampa, logging in summer and carpentering in winter. Lorene & Oliver had three children Richard E. Cameron, Dorene (Bob) Schiro, and Gerald (Leona) Cameron. She was a grandmother to Perry (Kari) & Mara Schiro and Melinda, Benjamin & Luke Cameron. She became a great-grandmother in 2012 when Theo Johnstone was born to Perry & Kari Schiro. There are many cousins, nieces & nephews in Idaho that were very attentive to their “Aunt Rene”. When Richard was 6 weeks old they moved to northern Idaho to work in the timber industry. In 1951, the family moved to Fairbanks, Alaska. Lorene & Oliver were missionaries to the Eskimo people in Alaska. They moved many times – from Fairbanks to Kotzebue & on to Shungnak, then to Ambler. As they moved from place to place, Lorene became involved in each community – working in the Post Office, the general store, and playing the organ for church. Kotzebue was the 3rd largest Eskimo village at that time – 60 miles above the Arctic Circle. They were involved with the music department and taught at the Friends Church. Lorene told wonderful stories about their life in Alaska. It was a hard life but she always talked of her time there with appreciation for all the things she learned. In 1970, Lorene & Oliver divorced and she moved to Nampa to be near her grandmother & mother. She got a position at the Idaho State School & Hospital. She worked there for 15 years in several positions. Upon retirement, she was asked by the Assemblies of God District Office to take a part-time job. She worked there five years. Lorene made friends everywhere she went. She had an amazing sense of humor that would have you holding your sides. Lorene always loved music and color. She loved to read, garden and converse with friends. She also loved nature and went hiking and camping often with friends in years past. Lorene is preceded in death by her son, Gerald, and all of her siblings and parents. There will be a viewing at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, 624 Cleveland Blvd., Caldwell, ID 83605 on Thursday evening from 5 – 7 pm and at Christian Faith Center, 31 S. Midland Blvd, Nampa, ID 83651 at 9:30 am on Friday, followed by the memorial service at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Kohlerlawn Cemetery. Service Information

I am sorry I will not be able to travel to Idaho for the funeral. I am very sad to hear of Aunt Lorene's passing. I just a short time ago received an eMail from her encouraging me to stay strong here on the mission field. She is one of the people who prayed me into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. What a great lady she was. As much as I regret her passing it is a comfort to know she is now with God.

To Lorene's Family, I am so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. SHe was a great Friend to my Mother Alice Crane. I on occasion was able to pick up the products for my Mother, which gave me a good chance for a visit. SHe was a very kind and gentle person. But now is in a better place. Dixie Flynn

Dear Dorene and Richard, I will truly miss spending time with your mother. I always enjoyed talking to her on the phone. She always would tell me what was going on in the family. She will now get to see Al again. I know they are rejoicing in heaven. I enjoyed my past few days with the family and so sorry I couldn't be there with family for the funeral. God Bless you Lorene.
