Loretta Christiano
August 5th, 1938 - May 30th, 2022
Loretta Christiano, age 83, of First Avenue Gloversville, NY, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022 at St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehab after a long illness. Born on August 5, 1938 in Gloversville, New York, she was the daughter of the late Dominic Picardi and Veronica Chardie Picardi of Gloversville, NY and was a lifetime resident of Gloversville graduating from Gloversville High School in 1956 and served as captain of cheerleading, her primary interest in high school. She was employed for many years with the Gloversville Enlarged School District as School Tax Collector and later Purchasing Agent for the Gloversville Schools. She was active in SAMPO, a professional organization for Purchasing Agents, as VP for 3 years and President of Gloversville School District Secretarial Association. She is believed to have paved the way for other women to become Purchasing Agents in upstate NY. Loretta was of the Catholic faith and loved to play the organ and send her “angels” to help others. She loved to quilt, macramé and needlepoint and was active in the Sew Busy Quilt Guild. In her younger years she enjoyed ice skating, ballet and listening to classical music with her dad. She was married to Tony Christiano of Gloversville who passed away a number of years ago. Survivors include her brother Michael Picardi of Williamsburg, Virginia, son Louis Anthony Christiano of Queensbury and daughter/son in law Dianne & John Schwarz of Ballston Spa NY as well as 3 grandchildren Brienna Christiano of Albany, Neil Christiano of Ballston Spa and Deanna Schwarz of Cambridge MA., and nephews Daniel Picardi and David Picardi and niece Patti Picardi. A brief service will be held for family and close friends on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 10:30 am at Walwrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be accepted in Loretta’s honor at Sew Busy Quilt Guild, Ottavioano Hall, Church of the Holy Spirit 161 Main Street, Gloversville, NY or at [email protected]. The staff of Walrath and Stewart Funeral home is honored to be assisting Loretta's family.
