Loretta Jean Hohenforst
December 6th, 1933 - October 18th, 2011
Loretta Jean Hohenforst, age 77, of Northville, passed away on October 18, 2011. She was born on December 6, 1933 the daughter of the late George R. and Margaret E. Hurd Lewis. She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1951and went to study cosmetology in Albany, NY. Upon graduation in 1952 she accepted a position at Cameo Beauty Salon in Gloversville. In 1960, she and her husband started Hohenforst Splitting. She also was a school tax collector and treasurer at Meco Elementary School. In 1976, she and her husband started Apollo Northeast Motor Homes. In 1978, they moved the business to Fulton Street in Gloversville, which soon after became Apollo Northeast Sales and Service. In 1991, they moved the business to its present location in Johnstown. Loretta was a Cub Scout den mother, a member of the Meco PTA, a member of the Meco Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Eccentric Club and the FMCA Motor Home Club. She was a lifetime member of the New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers and a member of both the Prevost Prouds and antique car clubs. Loretta was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed working with her family. Her hobbies included shopping, cooking, sewing, knitting, embroidering, gardening and decorating her home. Loretta loved spending time with her husband and family going to antique car shows. She also enjoyed traveling in her and her husband's motor coach around the country. Loretta is survived by her husband, Robert Hohenforst, whom she married May 16, 1953, enjoying fifty eight years of marriage. She had five sons: Thomas Monica, Richard Nancy, Daniel Kimberly, Robert and Scott Melissa; eleven grandchildren: Koren, Derek, Ingrid, Thomas, Kristin, Becky, Josh, Branden, Adisson, Bryce and Hannah; one sister, Jeanette Van Husen Roy of Florida and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Gladys Fisher and a brother, Douglas Lewis. Family and friends are invited and may call Friday, October 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 22 at 11 a.m. at Foothills United Methodist Church, Fremont Street, Gloversville with Pastor Michael Terrell officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Northville, 301 South Main Street, Northville, NY 12134; the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd. Loudonville, NY 12211; the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd. Albany, NY 12205; Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to a charity of one's choosing.
