Lorine (Rene) Zukowski, age 83, died on Monday, October 21, 2019 at Pikes Peak Hospice. She was born on December 6, 1935 in Williston, North Dakota to Clayton and Bernice Rogers. The second of three daughters, she was a classic middle child in that she related well to those who were younger or older and excelled in the role of family peace-keeper. After graduating from high school, Lorine began a career that spanned many years in the disciplines of accounting, credit, and banking. Her first job was in the business office at Montana Dakota Utilities in Williston. During a mixer in Williston, she met Marion (Wally) Zukowski, a dashing young Staff Sargent from the Fortuna Air Force Station in nearby Fortuna, North Dakota. They were married September 23, 1957 in Williston. In the early years of her marriage she took a sabbatical from outside employment to care for her children, Peter and Julie. After her children were in grade school, she returned to work as an office manager and later as a banker. She retired from Wells Fargo Bank in 1992 after spending more than 16 years working at Wells Fargo and its predecessor organizations: Conrad National Bank and First Interstate Bank. Lorine served as a school board member, a Sunday school teacher and administrator, and an officer of Financial Women International. She was a steadfast volunteer for many organizations over the years. Some of her most memorable experiences came from her work with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Hospice, and The Womans Club of Colorado Springs. Lorine is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Wally; son Peter (Terry) Zukowski; daughter Julie (Lyle) Ewert; grandsons Wally Zukowski and John Zukowski; sister Karen (Harold) Mindeman; and brother-in-law John Zukowski. Following a private burial at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 1515 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado. The family will greet friends at the church following the service.
