Lorraine Lorette Dlouhy
December 21st, 1924 - August 28th, 2012
Lorraine Lorette Dlouhy Lorraine Lorette Dlouhy of Lacey, WA went to join our Lord August 28, 2012. Shewas born on December 21, 1924 to Victor JB Cote and Alexina (Dubois) Cote in New Bedford, MA. Lorraine attended St. Joseph School in New Bedford, and graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School. As a young woman, Lorraine enjoyed ice skating at Brooklawn Pond. This is where she met the love of her life, Ralph Joseph Dlouhy, at the age of 15 years old. They would see each other every winter and enjoy ice skating together. When the ice thawed, they would go their separate ways until the next winter. Lorraine worked at the Acushnet Process in 1944 and this is where Ralph and Lorraine became reacquainted. They began dating and on Halloween night in 1945, Ralph asked Lorraine to marry him. They were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Bedford, MA on April 27, 1946. Ralph and Lorraine gave birth to their firstborn child, Anne Marie on August 3, 1947. Soon after, Ralph and Lorraine welcomed their son, Ralph Joseph Dlouhy, Jr. on November 10, 1948. Their third child, Lisa Anne was born on March 4, 1960. In 1957, Ralph, Lorraine, Anne and Ralph, Jr, along with Lorraine’s mother, Alexina Cote, headed west to start a new journey in Southern California. They lived in Torrance, CA from 1957-1960. During that time Lorraine worked at Kingsbacher-Murphy. In 1960 the family moved to Westminster, CA. Lorraine worked at ITT Canon briefly. When Ralph retired in 1989 the couple moved to Tumwater, WA to enjoy their retirement. They then moved to Laurel Oaks in Lacey, WA in 2000. During this time they enjoyed gardening, travelling, and keeping up with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lorraine was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Ralph. She was a loving and generous mother, grandmother and friend. Ralph and Lorraine celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 27, 2006. Lorraine was heartbroken when Ralph passed away on May 6, 2006. After Ralph’s passing, Lorraine lived in Olympia, WA and most recently in Lacey, WA. Lorraine was a talented homemaker and there were no skills that she had not mastered: She was an amazing cook, talented seamstress, knitter and quilter and kept an immaculate house. Her children and grandchildren wore many of the handcrafted garments Lorraine made and especially loved her quilts. Throughout Lorraine’s life she has been active in helping others. She volunteered at the St. Bonaventure School Library in Huntington Beach, CA for many years and worked in the St. Vincent de Paul Society Clothing Bank at St. Michael’s Church in Olympia, WA. Lorraine always supported her church, most recently St. Michael’s Parish and Sacred Heart Parish and donated to her favorite charities. Lorraine is survived by her three children, Anne (Donald Griffin) of Mukilteo, WA, Ralph Jr. (Eileen Russell), of Wareham, MA, Lisa (Robert Vasquez) of Olympia, WA; five grandchildren, Ralph Joseph Dlouhy, III, Mattapoisett, MA, Valerie May Hill (Justin), Bothell, WA, Christopher Robert Vasquez (Erin Harries), Orlando, FL, Bryan Joseph Vasquez, Seattle, WA, Nicole Morgan Vasquez, Orlando, FL; six great-grandchildren, Lauren Jenna, Madison, Alex, Colin, Sarah and Hannah. Lorraine was predeceased by Ralph, her husband of 60 years and granddaughter Kristen Maureen Griffin. A Funeral Service and Celebration of Life will be held in December, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lacey, WA. Remembrances in lieu of flowers may be made to the Kristen M. Griffin Memorial Scholarship at the University of Washington benefiting undergraduate RN candidates http://www.washington.edu/giving/ or to your favorite charity.
