Lorrine Carolyn Kyger
April 29th, 1946 - June 14th, 2015
Lorrine Kyger, daughter of Tony and Minnie Verquer (Pighetti), passed away peacefully on June 14th, surrounded by her family. Lorrine was born in Trinidad, CO on April 29th, 1946. She was raised north of Trinidad and attended El Moro and Hoehne schools. Growing up she loved the outdoors and enjoyed showing animals she raised, winning several awards for her heifers and steers. She later attended Colorado State University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Vocational Home Economics in 1968. She married Bill Kyger on July 27th, 1969 in Trinidad. They lived in Akron, CO before moving to Greeley in 1970. She taught Home Economics at Akron and Eaton high schools before deciding to stay at home to raise her two boys, Brad & Mark. During this time, she volunteered, taught adult education classes in the community and painted china. As her kids grew older, she went back to work for Weld County School District 6, where she spent 22 years prior to retiring. The last 13 years with the school district she spent coordinating the volunteer reading program at Monfort Elementary School. She was also a member of several professional organizations, painting guilds, HEIH, WCSPERA and the Purple Columbine Red Hatters. Her family was a large part of Lorrine’s life. She had many fond memories of annual camping trips to Yellowstone and other National Parks. She also enjoyed following both her husband’s coaching career and her sons’ numerous athletic endeavors. In addition, she enjoyed sewing, needlework, knitting, painting and trying new recipes. Upon retirement, her grandchildren became her main focus. She spent a great deal of time babysitting and traveling to spend time with them. Lorrine also enjoyed attending basketball (even CU) and Bronco games with Bill. Lorrine will be greatly missed by her husband of 45 years, Bill; sons, Brad (Bree) of Windsor, CO and Mark (Melinda) of Maple Grove, MN; grandchildren, Braylon, Lexie, Brex, Kayla and Kaedyn; brother, Tom (Pat) Verquer of Trinidad, CO and sister, Darlene (Mike) Smith of Colorado City, CO; several nieces and nephews as well as many cousins & friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and an unborn grandchild. A celebration of Lorrine’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Adamson Chapel, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the" Rocky Mountain Cancer Rehabilitation Institute Ben Nighthorse Campbell Center", 501 20th Street, Campus Box 6, Greeley, CO 80639 or the "Wildlife Animal Sanctuary", 1946 County Road 53, Keenesburg, CO 80643.
