April 1st, 1934 - May 13th, 2023
Louann Jean (Burns) Steward passed away on April 13, 2023, at the age of 89, after a brief illness. Louann was born in Denver, Colorado, to Archie and Winifred Burns on April 1, 1934, and was raised in Greeley, Colorado, as an only child. Louann attended Greeley schools, graduating from College High School in 1952. On June 30, 1954, Louann married her high school sweetheart, Harvey Steward, who had enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After marrying, Louann followed Harvey to San Diego, California, until he was transferred to San Francisco, California, where they lived until Harvey was deployed aboard ship. At that time, Louann returned home to Greeley, Colorado, eventually joined by Harvey after his discharge, where they made their home and raised their children. Louann began her career in 1950s working in San Francisco, as a secretary to investment bankers at Dean Witter & Co, and riding to work on the famous trolley cars. After returning to Greeley, Louann began working at Greeley National Bank, then moving on to Connecticut Mutual/Mass Mutual Insurance Company in various job capacities, ending her full-time career as an executive assistant in Denver in 2006, when she and Harvey returned to Greeley to be closer to family. Louann continued to work part time from home until 2018. In 2018, she and Harvey moved to Meadowview of Greeley where they resided until Harvey’s death in 2021. It was then that Louann moved to The Lodge at Greeley where she resided until the time of her death. Louann’s passions were her handwork and sewing projects. She was a talented dressmaker, designing and making wedding, bridesmaid and prom dresses for friends and relatives, along with elegantly tailored clothing for her daughter, granddaughters and other family members. Louann loved working needle point, cross stich and embroidery, and was an avid knitter, knitting beautiful Irish knit sweaters, blankets and other items. Louann made creative clown costumes for a friend, who performed at many events in the Denver area. Louann loved her family, spending many hours planning fun outings and holiday gatherings with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she loved to cook and bake. Louann volunteered her time as a co-leader for a Girl Scout troop her daughter was a member of and fostered her son Mark’s love of animals helping him care for a menagerie, which included hamsters, tad poles, turtles, ducks and dogs. Louann and Harvey welcomed their nephew into the family and enjoyed attending his high school sporting events, which included football and wrestling. Louann is survived by her daughter Kim (Mike) Tregoning, son Mark (Mary) Steward and nephew David (Sally) Shepherd; her grandchildren Sarah Garber (Matt Welch), Jessica (Joe) Marshall and Matthew (Kathryn) Steward; her great grandchildren Kaitlee, Camryn and Jake Marshall, and Lorelei and William Steward. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harvey, of 66 years, and her parents Archie and Winifred Burns. In addition, Louann had caretakers and staff from The Lodge at Greeley, whom she loved very much and who gave her loving care throughout her stay and during her last days. In addition, her RN, CNAs, and pastor from Optimal Hospice Care provided her with great support and loving care, and Louann’s family is thankful for all the assistance these professionals provide to her and them.
