I met Lou when he created an internship at KBR for WVU business students, and I was among the first to have that wonderful opportunity. I really enjoyed my two summers there, and he has been a tremendous help to me, and later my sister Joanna, in our careers. He took me to my first WVU alumni crab feast in Alexandria -- a fond memory. I recently moved back to DC and was looking him up to send an email when I saw this page. I am sorry to learn of his passing a year or so late, but I wanted to leave a note to express my thanks for his willingness to reach back to WVU students and bring them along in their careers, and also to say thanks for his friendship those two summers I spent at KBR. Our deepest sympathies to the Martinez family on the loss of Lou. We knew him through the Cocoa Beach Daybreak Club as "Winter" residents of the CB area. Lou was the "heart and soul" of the Club and was as dedicated member as anyone we know in Rotary. What a guy!! Our thoughts and prayers are with you, his family, as you say goodbye to him.

Lou was a good friend and a fine Rotarian. In the latter role he was like a sea anchor that keeps a ship pointed into the wind: he kept us focused on what matters: service. We are sad, but it is for our loss and not for Lou, for Lou sleeps in the arms of the Lord. Requiescat in pace.
