Louis (Lou, Louie, Papa, Pop) Joseph Mazzotta passed away peacefully in his home on June 18, 2012, after more than 98 years of a fantastic life. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012 10:00 a.m. †" 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph†™s Catholic Church in Golden and then Military services from 12:00 -12:30 p.m. at Ft. Logan National Cemetery. A †œcelebration of life†� reception will be held at Pine Hurst Country Club from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.; all are welcome to join the family in this celebration of Pop†™s life. Louie was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Letitia (Pasquale) Mazzotta and he was the last surviving sibling of six; sisters Mary Runco, Jennie Reno, Rose Thaxter, and brothers Frankie Mazzotta and Phil Mazzotta. Louie is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 71 years, Jean B. Mazzotta, daughters Letitia Valdez and Linda Warner, grandchildren Dean Valdez, Paul Valdez, Gina (Valdez) Abou-jaoude, Michael Valdez, Anthony †œTony†� Warner, Michelle Warner, Mandi (Warner) Aduan, and Vince Warner as well as ten great grandchildren, Dominic, Amanda, Gianna, Derek, Zachary, Makaila, Isabella, Tyler, Dylan, and Adam. Louie was born on Tuesday, April 28, 1914 in Salida, Colorado where he grew up loving the mountains and became an avid fisherman. He graduated from Salida High School in 1933 and served in the Army during World War II, from May 15, 1942 to January 3, 1946. He became a Sergeant and received the American Theater, Good Conduct, and Victory Medals. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Louie worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs (the V.A.) and became the Chief of Loan Processing where he helped veterans secure G.I. loans. Louie will be remembered for always making people laugh. His youthful spirit and joy of life were among the many qualities that drew people of all ages to him. He was a great family man and an inspiration, especially to his grandchildren who love him dearly. We will hold him forever in our hearts.
