Louis Ivar Tolstead

May 11, 1926 ~ September 10, 2017 - After his discharge from the US Naval Services, Louis became a sprint car driver, winning many competitions. Louis Ivar Tolstead passed away on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, of natural causes, in an assisted living facility. He was 91. Louis was born at the Oregon City Hospital on May 11, 1926, to Ivar and Edith Tolstead. He enlisted in the US Naval Services on July 5, 1943, and served until his honorable discharge on Jan. 1, 1946. After his discharge, Louis became a sprint car driver, winning many competitions. Desiring a family life, he left that profession after meeting his wife-to-be. In 1954, he married his wife, Rose Marie and the couple moved to Milwaukie, Ore. He went to work in the lumber industry, becoming a log scaler. From 1961 to 1965, they adopted their four sons. In 1969, Louis' career took him and his family to Ketchikan, Alaska, where they lived until their return to Oregon in 1975, taking up residence in the city of Molalla. There, he worked until retirement and lived until his passing in September. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Rose Marie Tolstead; sons, Neil, Scott, Mitch and Guy Tolstead; nephew, Peter Binn; nieces, Kathleen and Janine Binn; cousins, Lorraine Heath, Janice Younger and Kay Derochie; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of close friends. He will be greatly missed by all. A Celebration of Life will be held on Oct. 21, 2017, at 1 p.m., at the Molalla Adult Community Center, 315 Kennel Ave., Molalla, Ore.
