Louise Armstrong
August 28th, 1912 - February 28th, 2020
Louise Armstrong, age 107, was born August 28, 1912 in Aledo, Illinois to Fred and Katherine Routh. Her family moved to farm outside Diagonal, Iowa, in 1925. She attended Clearfield Iowa High School, graduating at the age of 16. Louise attended Simpson College in Indianol, Iowa from 1930-1931. After graduating she taught one year of school at Shannon City Iowa and one year of school at Lenoix Iowa. She had to resign when she got married. Louise met her husband, Harlan, on a blind date and always talked about the rumble seat in the car. Louise and Harlan were wed and honeymooned in Cetralia, Kansas. They lived on a 240 acre farm outside Diagonal, Iowa, raising crops, harvesting fields, and raising livestock and horses. In 1938, she had twins Larry and Harry, who was stillborn. Louise and Harlan loved to travel, find bargains at flea markets, and play cards with friends. For their 50th anniversary, Louise took her dream trip of visiting Hawaii. She taught Sunday School at Diagonal Presbyterian Church. Harlan passed in 1987 from Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Louise spent her spare time doing daily crossword puzzles, jumble word puzzles, playing Scrabble, and was an avid game show watcher. She also took daily walks. She is remembered by her son, Larry Armstrong and his wife Sherri; grandson David Armstrong; and granddaughter Evone Huston and her husband John. All family members reside in St. Pete, Florida. Louise’s Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 5th at 11am at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. MLK Street North. Burial will follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery.
