Lowell "Gene" Eugene Powers
October 15th, 1964 - August 9th, 2024
"This is our temporary home..."
Retired Army Master Sergeant Lowell “Gene” Powers (October 15 1964-August 09 2024) of Matthews, North Carolina passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by loved ones. His untimely death was the result of Stage Four Metastatic Cancer, and he was a fighter to the very end.
Gene was the second born of four children. He is survived by his little sister, Vickie and preceded by his brothers Eddie and Buzzy; his mother Brenda and father, Bill. Gene leaves his legacy behind in his two children, Caila and Chase; two stepchildren, Candyace and VJ, and five grandchildren.
His family meant everything to him. A few months before he passed, he was blessed to host a giant family reunion which resulted in sixty-plus family members attending and reconnecting. Vickie, Uncle Phil, Aunt Sue, Cousin Chris and Aunt Becky were among those by his bedside when he passed. He will be greatly missed by his many loved ones.
Gene honorably served his country in the U.S Army for 22 years, most notably by completing assignments as part of Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. He retired as a decorated Master Sergeant. For Gene, defending the country was both a passion and one of his greatest pleasures.
In June 2024, Gene was baptized by his daughter, Caila, and professed Jesus to be the Lord and Savior of his life. We believe he is dancing in the streets of Heaven, now free from his pain and suffering.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this year. The family will announce further detail soon. Memorial contributions can be sent to 3225 Smith Farm Road, Matthews, NC 28104.
