Lucia Osa
December 13th, 1914 - June 24th, 2012
Lucia Uriaguerica Osa, our Mother (Ama) and Grandmother (Amuma & Amachu), passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 24, 2012 at the age of 97, knowing that she was very much loved by her family and many friends. Lucia was born to Florencio “Pancho” and Antonia Aguirre Uriaguerica, Basque immigrants, on December 13, 1914 in Bliss, Idaho. She joined an older brother Luciano and sister Enriqueta. She was raised in Bliss then Gooding, where her parents owned a boarding house. Lucia played the violin and would join her father while he played his accordion and her mother played the spoons, at the many dances and celebrations that were held in the winter months at the boarding house. She was educated in Gooding, graduating from Gooding High School in 1932. After her Mother’s death in 1935, she and her Father went to the Basque Country in March of 1936 to visit with their many relatives there. While there, the Spanish Civil War broke out, although her Father came back home to Idaho, Lucia stayed for 4 more years enduring the ravages of war. Lucia married Jose “Mendeja” Osa, October 15, 1942. They had 3 children, Mary Louise, Linda Ann and Joseph Michael. Mendeja died May 16, 1986. Lucia was the last surviving member of the “Friendship Club” of Gooding, which was made up of several Basque Ladies, who would get together once a month to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and life in general. She was preceded in death by her parents, baby daughter, Linda Ann, her brother, her sister, and her husband. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Louise and Husband Ray Mansisidor of Homedale, ID, son, Joe Osa of Portland, OR. Grandchildren: Anne-Marie Mansisidor, Mike & Judy Mansisidor, Joe & Susan Mansisidor, and Patrick Mansisidor and her great-grandchildren, Michael, Dustin, Devyn, Lucia, Josie, and Raymond. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Rochelle, Danielle, Kendra, and step great-grandsons, Matthew and Nicholas. The family wishes to gratefully thank Trish George for being such a special person in Mom’s Life. A Rosary and Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 29, 2012 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church (1515 California St., Gooding, ID 83330). Services are under the care of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Homedale (208-337-3252). Inurnment will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery, Gooding. Condolences may be sent to www.flahifffuneralchapel.com.
