Lucile Grier Wyant ?Lucy? Mrs. Wyant passed away Saturday, December 25, 2010 at the Stewart Health Center at the Cypress of Charlotte. She was born in Gastonia, NC January 26, 1925, daughter of the late Lucile Cross and William P. Grier. After graduating from Gastonia High School and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (formally know as Woman's College), she briefly taught school in Mecklenburg and Gaston counties. As an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church since 1973, she was involved in Circles and committees. In the community, Lucy volunteered with "Meals on Wheels," Hospitals and other organizations. Her hobbies included Bridge, Garden Clubs and she was a member of the 9 hole golf group at Carmel Country Club. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Stowe W. Wyant, of the Cypress; three daughters: Mrs. Martha Owens and husband, Cliff of Albany Ga., Mrs. Nancy Coggins and husband, Rusty of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Susan Crumpler and husband, Rick of Raleigh; three grandchildren: Mrs. Suzanne Coggins Brown and husband, Jason of Raleigh, NC., Preston Wyant Laird and wife, Krissie of Savannah Ga., and Steven Russell Coggins, Jr. of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by her sister, Ms. Mary Virginia Grier of Gastonia and nieces, Ms. Barbara Grier of Stone Mountain, IN and Mrs. Patti Lesslie of Greenville, SC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wyant was preceded in death by her brothers, William P. Grier Jr. and Col. John C. Grier. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she always put others first. Lucy touched the lives of many; she was a true southern lady with charm and dignity. Our deepest gratitude goes to the compassionate staff at The Stewart Health Center of the Cypress for their care and support. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Trinity Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28204 or Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3115 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28211.
