Lucy Ellen Tolson
August 17th, 1934 - November 21st, 2017
Lucy Ellen Tolson, age 83, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at her home in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Born in Washington D.C. on August 17, 1934, she graduated from Montgomery Blair High School, Silver Spring, Maryland, and studied at George Washington University. Lucy crosses to join her husband of 59 years, George Edward Tolson III. A loving mother, and active member of the Cocoa Beach community for over 50 years, Lucy was a member of the Cocoa Beach Women’s Club; volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Cape Canaveral Hospital; served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, served as president of the Cocoa Beach High School Coral Backers; and was active in various student activity support groups during her children’s secondary school years. She held various positions, including treasurer and president, within the Cocoa Beach Women’s Club. In later years she contributed by coordinating national conventions for the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. A lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, Lucy was a certified firearm safety instructor and served 20 years as a scorer for the National Smallbore Rifle Championships in Camp Perry, Ohio. Additionally, she supported marksmanship programs through Brevard Community College and the Florida Institute of Technology, and was an active member of the Blackhawk Rifle Club and the Patrick Rod and Gun Club. Lucy loved books, both good and bad, and voraciously read them. A formidable woman possessing of a transatlantic accent and the intellect to use it beautifully she enjoyed art, good food, and conversation, particularly when they took place on a cruise ship. She had a life long love of Disney that she instilled in all her family and she will be dearly missed by them all. Lucy is survived by her brother Robert Lee Ward; three children: George IV (Jeanne) Tolson, Pamela (Richard) Robbins, and William (Debra) Tolson; seven grandchildren: Christopher (Trista), Jackie (Will), Elizabeth (Michael), George V, Katherine, Victoria, and Margaret; and two great grandchildren: Dylan and Cole. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2017, with memorial services following at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home, Viera, Florida. She will be interred next spring at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, MaryLand. In lieu of flowers please make your memorials to the City of Cocoa Beach Fire Department and the Cocoa Beach Women's Club?
