Survived by loving husband of 45 years, Lawrence Cooper Trombley, of Gloversville, daughter Janet Trombley Ayer Rochester, NY, son Bruce Trombley Rochester, NY, sister Elsie Unger Robert, brother Arnold Smith Dottie, both of Gloversville, grandchildren Benjamin and Olivia Ayer, nieces, nephews, cousins. Predeceased by parents Willard and Etta Peters Smith. Lucy was a 1945 graduate of Gloversville High School, where she excelled in sports, was named Woman Athlete of the Year, was 1st chair virtuoso Trumpet in Band and Orchestra, and member of Phi Delta sorority. She was a long time Girl Scout and camp counselor at camp Kowaunkami Caroga Lake. She earned her Bachelor?s degree at Bouve? Boston College at Tufts University in Physical Education. She went on to earn her Master?s degree at Smith College, then her PhD ABD as a teacher/fellow at the Iowa State University. She began her teaching career at Boston University, then on to William Smith College Geneva, NY, followed by a position at Colorado College Colorado Springs, and then an appointment as Director of Physical Education at Eastern Montana College in Billings Montana. Lucy served on the Gloversville Board of Education for 10 years, was a Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church, long-term member of the Sanctuary Guild, and served with the YWCA and YMCA. A woman ahead of her time with an adventurous spirit brought her soaring as Gloversville?s first woman solo pilot. She had a love for the outdoors, yard work, sports, and education. During her married years, she was dedicated to her children, teaching them how to enjoy the pleasures of snow/waterskiing, swimming, fishing, and a variety of other activities. She especially enjoyed life at their summer home on the Sacandaga Reservoir. She will be greatly missed by her family. A memorial service will be held 11 am Friday March 16, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church, 16 W. Fulton Street Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville.
