Luigi D'Aniello
November 18th, 1936 - February 12th, 2024
Luigi D’Aniello, 87 of Amsterdam, NY, passed away February 12, 2024, peacefully with his family by his side. Luigi was also known as Gigino, Louie, Gumbarae, but most importantly wanted to be known as Nonno. He was the youngest of four children, born to Salvatore and Maria Giuseppina. Born on November 18, 1936, in Casale Di Principe, Provinci di Caserta, Italy. Luigi was his own contractor in Italy before immigrating to the United States. He was well known for his perfection in masonry, concrete, and general contracting work where he built many homes including his sisters and his own residence. He was well regarded in the industry in Italy and brought his mastery trade to the United States. This ultimately led to his career in the Brick Layers Local 2 and proudly vested 50 years in America. His heritage, culture, and family values were brought to the United States where he started his family. He met his spouse Anna 65 years ago and they married on August 21, 1966, in their hometown of Casale. Together they immigrated to the United States in December of 1966 and shared an amazing 57 years together filled with learning a new culture, traveling, and raising 3 children, Josephine (Steve) Bailey, Esterina (Tom) Adams, and Salvatore (Amanda) D’Aniello. His pride and joy were his three grandsons, Luigi, David, & Antonio. Luigi was predeceased by his wife, Ninetta, parents, his sisters, Maria, Nunziatina, and Emma, and his nieces, Genueffa, Sissinella, Nancy, and Esta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 11am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam, NY, 12010, with the Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday prior to the Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church from 9am-11am. Entombment will follow in the family mausoleum in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 St. Johns Street, Amsterdam, NY or to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Online condolences may be made at www.brbsfuneral.com.
