Luis E Araquistain

August 21st, 1924 - May 18th, 2012

Luis E. Araquistain, formerly of Boise, died in San Jose, California on May 18, 2012. Lou was born in Jordan Valley, OR on August 21, 1924 to Narcissa and Antonio Araquistain. He graduated from Jordan Valley High School in 1944 he attended business school in Boise and after graduation went to work at Caxton Printer in Caldwell. During this time he met and married Lila Squires. From this marriage he was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Candace and Debra. He later left Caxton Printers and took a job as a shoe salesman for Falk’s ID Department Store. This was his calling. Through the years he excelled as a salesman, his contagious enjoyment for the work awarding him with many loyal customers. Lou and Lila separated in the early 1960’s. Later he met and married Joeann Gates. Joeann had several children and Lou considered the youngest daughter Teresa as his “adopted” daughter. Some years later Lou and Joeann separated and Lou relocated to California to be near his daughter Candace and have the opportunity to see his granddaughters grow up. Lou was a very social individual and knew no strangers. He was quick to smile and had a long laugh that would give way to a chuckle. Despite a leg that often caused him pain, he took great pleasure in long walks downtown and befriending those along his path. In his pocket he carried butterscotch candies to share with the littlest of friends. He is survived by his two daughters Candace (Marten) Harrison, Debra and adopted daughter Teresa Hatcher, grandchildren Forrest (Karlene), Courtney and Lindsey, numerous nieces and nephews and his brother Paul (Melba). He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Pete (Peggy). Lou’s Graveside Memorial Service will be held at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell on Tuesday June 19, 2012 at 1:00 PM. Services are under the care of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Basque Foundation, Inc., 601 Grove St., Boise, Idaho.
