Obituary Luis Ignacio Caliz, (9/20/1941- 7/15/2018) Dad, Abu, Abuelito, Grandpa, Nacho, Don Luis, Tio, passed into the loving embrace of his heavenly father on July 15, 2018. Blessed with a deep faith in God and a loving family, Dad’s incredible spirit and love for his family allowed him to bravely endure 9 years of myelofibrosis with grace and strength. He passed with peace, serenity and calm surrounded by his loving wife, son and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dina M. Caliz, his son William Ignacio Caliz, Daughter in-law Karla Caliz, Grandsons: William Jordan, Jared and Josiah Caliz, Adoring sisters Emilia Caliz Santiago, Carmen Lourdes Caliz Santiago, Jeannette Caliz Santiago, 9 nieces and nephews, 15 great grand nieces and nephews and many loving relatives and dear friends. Mr. Luis Ignacio Caliz was a native of Peñuelas Puerto Rico. He was born at home on September 20, 1941 to Mr. William Caliz and Mrs. Antonia Santiago. He was a beautiful child, born with red hair. He had a wonderful childhood with his sisters Millita, Lourdes, and Jeannette. His mother was a skilled seamstress who dressed him in beautiful clothes and guayaberas sewn and embroidered by her. He enjoyed many toys made by his father, a carpenter by trade. In 1960 he enlisted in the United States Armed forces. After completing his service he became the sole provider for his mother and younger sisters when his father fell ill. He went on to serve as a civilian for the federal government until retirement age in 2009. On December 5th, 1969 He married the love of his life, Dina Matilde Gonzalez. They welcomed their only son, William Caliz on January 25th 1971 in Ponce Puerto Rico. They later welcomed their only daughter Hannah Elizabeth Caliz on May 27th, 1991. She was a beautiful red head child like her father. Hannah passed away at birth. Luis was as an excellent father and loving husband, doting grandfather, adoring brother the sweetest uncle, and a loyal friend. His family was his love and life. He is remembered as a peacemaker and a hard worker. He inspired peace and serenity to all who knew him. He was an avid reader, and loved history including sports history. It was his joy to cook and create beautiful dishes in his kitchen to share. He had a gift of hospitality and loved cooking for his family. He was happiest surrounded by his loved ones. He was proud of his Peñuelas and Puerto Rican heritage. He was also extremely proud and found great joy in following the accomplishments and milestones of his Son, grandsons, sisters, nieces and nephews. He was a delightful storyteller and loved to teach others to cook, about history, culture and about sports history. He was witty and had an incredible sense of humor. His wisdom, smile, stories, laughter and joy will be long remembered. He impacted many lives. To know him was to love him. He was the true definition of a gentleman and of good. His daughter, Hannah Elizabeth Caliz, his father, William Caliz and his mother Antonia Santiago, precedes him in death. What a joyful reunion this must have been in heaven. A visitation will be held Friday, July 20, 2018 between 11:00-12:00 and the service will begin at 12:00 at the Little Chapel by the Sea, 65 Asilomar Ave., Pacific Grove, CA. Bendecido con un una fe profunda en Dios y una familia amorosa, el increíble espíritu de papá y su amor por su familia le permitieron soportar valientemente 9 años de myelofibrosis con gracia y fortaleza. Pasó con paz, serenidad y calma rodeado de su amorosa esposa, hijo y nietos. Le sobreviven su amada esposa de 49 años, Dina M. Cáliz, su hijo William Ignacio Cáliz, su nuera Karla Cáliz, sus nietos: William Jordán, Jared y Josiah Cáliz, sus hermanas adoradoras Emilia Cáliz Santiago, Carmen Lourdes Cáliz Santiago, Jeannette Cáliz Santiago, 9 sobrinas y sobrinos, 15 sobrinos nietos y muchos queridos parientes y queridos amigos. El Sr. Luis Ignacio Cáliz era nativo de Peñuelas Puerto Rico. Nació en casa el 20 de septiembre de 1941 a el Sr. William Cáliz y la Sra. Antonia Santiago. Él era un niño hermoso, nacido con cabello rojo. Tuvo una infancia maravillosa con sus hermanas Millita, Lourdes y Jeannette. Su madre era una hábil costurera que lo vestía con hermosas ropas y guayaberas cosidas y bordadas por ella. Disfrutó muchos juguetes hechos por su padre, un carpintero de oficio. En 1960 se enlistó en las fuerzas armadas de los Estados Unidos. Después de completar su servicio, se convirtió en el único proveedor de su madre y hermanas menores cuando su padre enfermó. Siguió sirviendo como civil para el gobierno federal hasta la edad de jubilación en 2009. El 5 de diciembre de 1969 se casó con el amor de su vida, Dina Matilde González. Le dieron la bienvenida a su único hijo , William Ignacio Cáliz, el 25 de enero de 1971 en Ponce Puerto Rico. Más tarde dio la bienvenida a su única hija, Hannah Elizabeth Cáliz, el 27 de mayo de 1991. Era una hermosa niña pelirroja como su padre. Hannah falleció al nacer. Luis, era un padre excelente y un esposo cariñoso, un abuelo amoroso, un hermano adorador, el tío más dulce y un amigo leal. Su familia era su amor y su vida. Él es recordado como un pacificador y un trabajador. Él inspiró paz y serenidad a todos los que lo conocieron. Era un lector ávido, amaba la historia y era aficionado a los deportes. Fue su alegría cocinar y crear hermosos platos en su cocina para compartir. Tenía un don de hospitalidad y amaba cocinar para su familia. Él estaba más feliz rodeado de sus seres queridos. Estaba orgulloso de su herencia de Peñuelas y puertorriqueña. También se sintió extremadamente orgulloso y encontró una gran alegría al seguir los logros y éxitos de su hijo, nietos, hermanas, sobrinas y sobrinos. Él era un encantador narrador y le encantaba enseñar a otros a cocinar, enseñar sobre historia, cultura y deportes. Él era ingenioso y tenía un increíble sentido del humor. Su sabiduría, sonrisa, historias, risas y alegría serán recordados por siempre. Él impactó muchas vidas. Conocerlo era amarlo. Él era la verdadera definición de un caballero y del bien. Le precedieron en la muerte su hija, Hannah Elizabeth Cáliz, Su padre, William Cáliz y su madre Antonia Santiago. Qué reunión tan alegre debe haber sido en el cielo.
