Lydia Loeffler
January 10th, 1915 - January 7th, 2019
Lydia Loeffler, 103, of La Salle, passed away peacefully in her home, of 70 years, on January 7, 2019. She was shy of 104 years by 3 days. She was born to Jacob and Elizabeth (Fritzler) Schafer on January 10, 1915 in Windsor, Colorado. She lived in Weld County her entire life. She spent her early childhood helping on the family farm in Greeley, where Greeley West High School is today. Lydia enjoyed gardening, sewing and quilting. She also loved polka dancing. She was known for her home cooked meals and especially her infamous Sponge Cake with real whipped cream. She would always invite folks in for a bite to eat and loved telling jokes while sitting around the kitchen table. You were sent on your way with a bag of popcorn to enjoy until the next visit. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her. She was a huge Colorado Rockies fan. She would plan her day around the Rockies’ schedule. She didn’t like those 8pm games, she went to bed at 10. Lydia is survived by her children, Vicki (John) Knespel, Verla Lynn Braunagel, and Jerry Loeffler; grandchildren, John (Lou) Knespel, Janelle (Michael) Carroll, Karen Braunagel, Scott (Tianna) Loeffler, Laura (Daniel) Bowman, Emily (Troy) Orr, Luke (Michela) Loeffler and Cayley Loeffler; 13 great grandchildren and an extended family and friends. A special thanks to Joni Hunter for the loving care, support, kindness and going beyond the call of duty over the past 2 years. Lydia was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Winder; killed in an accident in February 1942. In 1946, she met Jerome Loeffler, at a dance, and they married in April 1947. Jerome passed away in October 2009. She is also preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Maria Joslyn, Robert Schafer, Paul Schafer, Carl Schafer, and Esther Wiedeman. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Weld County Food Bank. Life Celebration visitation and rosary will be held from 5-7 pm, Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Avenue in Greeley. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am, Friday, January 11th, at St. Peters Catholic Church, 915 12th Street in Greeley. Graveside will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley. Reception will be held thereafter at the Elks Lodge, 3061 W 29th St in Greeley. To leave condolences for Lydia’s family, please visit www.adamsoncares.com
