Lynda L. Spagnola, 65, of Catherine St., Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday morning January 19, 2016 at the EL Wilkinson Facility, following a valiant fight with cancer with her loving family at her side. Born in Amsterdam on July 16, 1950 a daughter of the late Aloysius "Louis" and Katherine Gray Spagnola. She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and was a 1969 graduate of the former Bishop Scully High School. She received College certification in Early Childhood Development from the former St. Catherine's School in Albany. She was a dedicated Health Care Professional throughout her career in Amsterdam. She worked for many years for Dr. Crisanto Torres Office in Amsterdam. Her compassion and outgoing spirit toward her colleagues and patients, who she considered her extended family will never be forgotten. Lynda was a loyal fan of Elvis Presley and the New York Yankees. She also enjoyed traveling to various casinos with her partner in crime and niece Amanda Russo. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach in Wellfleet, Cape Cod with family. Most of all Lynda loved spending time with her children, siblings and grandchildren who were the light of her life. During her illness Lynda took each step and faced it all with grace. She always showed concern and compassion for others throughout the time of her fight, and always with a smile. She is survived by her loving children, Darby (Allison) Vedder of Amsterdam, Tera Vedder of Amsterdam and Dylan (Yadira)Vedder of Amsterdam. Her dear brother, Clement "Clem" Spagnola and his wife Gloria of Hagaman, NY, A beloved sister, Susan (Jimmy) Russo of Amsterdam. Cherished grandchildren, Tabrin Aldi, Savannah Vedder, Braelin Aldi, Keegan Vedder, Graciana Aldi and Blake Vedder. One uncle, Tony Spagnola of Galway. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. John Fedullo for his wonderful care and all the staff especially the 1st Floor at EL Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, who were exceptionally supportive. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 21, 2016 at 1:00PM at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50 Cornell St. Amsterdam with Father O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the Funeral Mass beginning at 12:00 Noon Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the EL Wilkinson RHCF Activities Fund, 4988 State Hwy 30N, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam,NY 12010.
