Memorial

Lynn Lundquist, age 73, passed away on Dec. 13, 2015 from complications of diabetes and multiple strokes. He was born in Vancouver, Washington to Armand and Arlene Lundquist. He graduated from Hudson’s Bay High School in Vancouver in 1960, and from the University of Washington, where he majored in Anthropology and Education, in 1963. He earned his Master’s in Religious Education from Western Baptist Seminary in Portland in 1966. He married Gail Stark in 1968. He was an ordained Baptist minister, and he and Gail served as missionaries in Madagascar for 14 years with the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society. Following their return to the United States in 1980, Lynn became a licensed Plant Supervising electrician and a journeyman millwright. He worked in manufacturing plants where he maintained and installed production equipment, managed production, designed and built robotic equipment and became a manufacturing plant General Manager. Lynn had a varied career in a number of fields. He was a skilled mechanic, carpenter, and musician. He held 23 issued patents, taught Bible classes, and authored 19 books, including texts for journeyman electricians and books dealing with textual criticism. Additionally, he developed a niche publishing house which produced apologetic and other faith-related books. Twelve of his books were translated into other languages. He wrote several texts introducing a new English language-learning method he developed which he called the Feedback Training Language Learning Method. Using this language learning method, he designed and produced a 16-lesson spoken English course using lessons from the book of Acts (www.FreeEnglishNow.com) which has become the world’s most widely distributed spoken English language course, with a monthly average of 70,000 unique website visitors. In addition, over one million CDs of the entire course of 147 lessons (including MP3 audio and an accompanying text) are downloaded each year at no cost to the students. Lynn was satisfied that his life had fulfilled many useful purposes. He felt his time overseas had been well spent after his writing of a widely distributed study of Jesus’ life. He enjoyed working with machinery and being able to increase the production and profitability of a number of manufacturing plants in the Portland / Vancouver area. He was pleased to have given 19 mechanical, electrical, and plastic recycling equipment and process patents to the public domain for the common good. He found great satisfaction in having helped hundreds of thousands of students in over 170 countries learn to speak English free of charge. He delighted in having been able to print over 100,000 books which he distributed both in the U.S. and internationally. Most of all, his greatest joy in life was his certainty of the great love God had given to him for Jesus, and his resulting desire to trust Jesus completely. Lynn is survived by his wife, Gail, his daughter, Denise Hopkins (Marc), his grandchildren, Mia and Ryan Hopkins, and his brothers, Bryce (Sharon), and Gregg (Virginia). A private family graveside service has been held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Gideons International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214—0800 (or www.gideons.org).
