Madaline A. DeLuca
August 5th, 1927 - January 23rd, 2011
Madaline A. DeLuca, 83, of Harvard Avenue, passed away peacefully in the company of her family Sunday afternoon. Born in Amsterdam on August 5, 1927, she was the last surviving child of the late Frank J. and Madeline Stangle Smith. She worked for over twenty two years as a media aide in the Greater Amsterdam School District until she retired in 1986. An avid bowler and golfer in her earlier days, she and her husband Louis enjoyed wintering at their home in Plant City Florida. Madaline was an active member of the Columbiettes of Council 209 Knights of Columbus, and St. Stan's Seniors. She and Lou loved to travel, and while in Florida she was a parishioner of St. Clement's Church there, and St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. On Aug. 24, 1947 she was united in marriage to Louis B. DeLuca Sr., he predeceased her on November 26, 2006. An infant sister Mary, and three brothers, Frank, George and Robert Smith also predeceased her. Her loving family includes her sons; Louis B. DeLuca Jr. and his wife Mary of Rochester, David J. DeLuca and his wife Lois of Cohoes, Michael F. DeLuca of Amsterdam, James J. DeLuca of Ilion, NY; fourteen grandchildren; Dr. Jason DeLuca, Anthony DeLuca and his wife Hilary, Nicholas DeLuca and his wife Heather, Aaron, Daniel, Richard, Christopher CJ , Taryn, Nikki, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Christian , Madaline and Sebastian DeLuca; four great grandchildren; brothers-in- law, Thomas and John DeLuca; sisters-in-law Yolanda Rogers and Rose Smith; her dear cousin Betty Cox with whom she recently resided; and nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main Street. Fr. John Medwid, celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday evening from 4-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Interment will take place at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Hospice of Rensselaer County or to St. Mary's Church, both in care of the funeral home office.
