Mamie Lee Black
December 2nd, 1929 - May 6th, 2014
Black, Mamie Lee, 84, of Tampa/St. Petersburg, went to be with Almighty God on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Mamie was born in Griffin, GA, on Dec. 2, 1929. She received her degree in education from the University of Georgia, and was a beloved school teacher for many years at Gorrie, Carrollwood and Claywell Elementary. Mamie was a longstanding member of the Pasadena Community Church, and could frequently be found leading a Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) class. More recently, she worshipped at Idlewild Baptist Church and enjoyed building new relationships there. Mamie is survived by her devoted husband of almost 62 years, James "Buddy" Black, four children; Kathy Pence, JoAnne Gordon, and Scott Black, all of Tampa, FL; and Jim Black of Jupiter, FL. She also leaves a legacy of thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. We invite all her family and friends to celebrate Christ as Mamie has gone to meet Him face to face. Mamie died as she lived, a woman devoted to family, who proclaimed with her very life the meaning of a faith in Christ and a passion to see others experience the same. Mamie’s favorite verse was 1 John 4:19, “We love because he first loved us,” and she was known for the way she loved others. A time of celebration will be held at Pasadena Community Church at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 19th. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to BSF (www.bsfinternational.org).
