Mamie Helen Jones was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 13, 1927 to Emma Troy and Jesse Pope at Grady Memorial Hospital. Mama Jones, as she was affectionately known by her family and close friends, is survived by her son, James Edward Jones Jr., her daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Jones, and her three grandchildren, Anthony, Brandon, and Courtney Jones; extended family member Marguerite E. Bond (mother of Lee Ann Jones). From 1963 to 1968, Mamie Jones worked in food service at the Country Club Course in Youngstown, Ohio; and from 1968 to 1990, she continued to work in food service at Saint Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio until her retirement in 1990. It is without a doubt that Mamie Jones was loved dearly by her nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her family extended across four states: Atlanta, Georgia, Flint, Michigan, Youngstown, Ohio and San Diego, California. She spent her days shopping at Goodwill and yard sales, volunteering at the local soup kitchens in Flint, Michigan. She loved her game shows - The Price is Right and Let’s Make a Deal - and her favorite court show, Judge Judy. Her other favorite pastimes included listening to music, solving various word puzzles, and going to Bingo or the casinos to play the slots. Our Heavenly Father has called out beloved Mama Jones home where she will be greeted by her sister, Jessie Ruth Ringfield, and her brother Clemet Pope. We will always remember Mamie Helen Jones Who asked for little or nothing but gave so much. The Broken Chain We knew little that morning That God was going to call your name In life we loved you dearly In death we do the same It broke our hearts to lose you You did not go alone For part of us went with you The day God called you home You left us precious memories Your love is still our guide And though we cannot see you You are always by our side Our family chain is broken And nothing seems the same But as God calls us one by one The chain will link again ~ Unknown Author ~
