Manuel de Montoya
June 22nd, 1933 - October 13th, 2010
Manuel de Montoya, Sr. 77, of LaSalle, CO passed away early morning, October 13, 2010, at Bonell Good Samaritan Center. He was born in Manuelitas, NM on June 22, 1933 and was adopted by Sotero and Juanita Montoya. His youth was spent working in Kansas, Wyoming, and Northern Colorado where he worked for Adolph and Beulah Bohlender in the La Salle area. Later he worked for Monfort Feed Lot until his retirement in 1998. Manuel met Modesta Padilla in Sapello,NM and always told his children how he instantly fell in love with "this little blondie”. They married October 9, 1955 in Sapello and moved to La Salle shortly after. Manuel was known for his great sense of humor, work ethic, optimism, and strong family bonds. He loved his children so much; he would tell anyone who would listen that his children and grandchildren were the very best, and he never had to discipline them because they were so obedient. He spent his retirement years improving his son’s farm in Kersey. He always had spare change to give his granddaughters like a $5 bill for one candy bar. Survivors are his wife Modesta of La Salle; his son Manuel Jr. (Vivian) of Kersey; daughters, Vicki Starr of Greeley, and Gloria (Robert) Bondo of Casper, WY; his sister Marina Salazar of Greeley; five granddaughters, Sheree Montoya (Joe McGlasson) Amanda Starr, DeeAnna Starr, Christy (Ben) Yoas, and Jessica Montoya; two great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and two step great- grandsons. Manuel’s family wants to express their appreciation to the wonderful staff at Summit West at Bonell for their kindness and compassion during his stay in the facility. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2010 at Adamson Chapel. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to "North Range Behavioral Health” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634
