Anderson, Marc A., Army Spc., 30, of Brandon, died March 4, 2002, during combat operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Born in Fort Benning, Georgia, he moved to Alliance, Ohio in 1978. He was a 1990 graduate of Alliance High School, where he received many athletic awards. After graduation, he attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland until 1992. He then attended Florida State University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and was an All American and ninth in school history in the shot put. He was awarded the Golden Torch, an honor bestowed upon the top student-athlete of the year. He graduated with honors in 1995 with a degree in mathematics education. He taught math at Fort Myers Middle School, until he joined the U.S. Army in June of 1998. He is survived by his parents, David L. and Judith E. Anderson of Jacksonville, Florida; and 2 brothers, Gunnery Sgt. John D. Anderson of Camp Lejuene, North Carolina and Steve J. Anderson of St. Petersburg. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes and Cremation Tribute Center-Ninth Street Chapel, St. Petersburg.
