Marceil Armstrong Thornhill Hoyle, 80, of Charlotte, passed away in her home on Thursday, December 28, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Marceil was born on July 14, 1937 in Charlotte, NC to Archibald and Marceil Thornhill. She is a 3rd generation Charlottean. Both of her parents, as well as her brother, James "Jimmy" Thornhill and her great granddaughter Olivia preceded her in death. She fought a heroic battle against cancer for many years. Her grace and strength is a legacy to her family. Marceil was a lifelong member of Dilworth United Methodist Church, where she served many years as the Honorary Historian of the church. Her greatest love was her family. She leaves behind her husband of 59 years, Leonard Hoyle, Her sisters, Jane Cobb (Hollis), Claire Skinner (Tom), Ginger Evans and Betty Sue Thornhill; Five children, Bill Hoyle (Julie), Cindy Morris (Ray), Linda McKnight (Billy), Beverly Abbott (Ken), and Ginger Hickman (Mark); Fifteen grandchildren; Twenty-nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed dearly. To know Marceil was to love her and in return, her love was a wonderful gift to us all. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in the Fellowship Hall of Dilworth United Methodist Church, 605 East Blvd, Charlotte from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Mrs. Hoyle will lie in repose in the Main Sanctuary. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Main Sanctuary of Dilworth United Methodist Church with Pastor Karen Easter Bayne officiating. Immediately following the service a reception will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn West. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care-Charlotte Region; 1420 East 7th Street; Charlotte, NC 28204.
