Marcellus "Mark" Calhoun Mattox

WEST COLUMBIA—A memorial service for Marcellus "Mark" Calhoun Mattox, 80, of West Columbia, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Springdale Baptist Church. Rev. Tommy McGill will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service at the church. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Springdale Baptist Church c/o Building Fund, 357 Wattling Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. Mr. Mattox, also known as "Doodle", beloved husband of Connie Anderson Mattox, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2013. Born in Winnsboro, he was a son of the late Dolphus Mattox and Clara Mae Mattox. He was a lifetime area resident and attended Springdale Baptist Church. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean conflict. Doodle enjoyed playing pool and taking walks. He was loved and will be dearly missed. Surviving in addition to his wife of 33 years, Connie A. Mattox; children, Cheri McClanahan of Vanesville, OH; Mark and Janet Mattox of Syracuse, NY, Paul Mattox of Smithfield, NC and Ted Mattox of New York; sisters, June Mattox of Lexington, Linda Jaco (Tommy) of Gilbert and Wanda Grant (John) of Cayce; brother-in-law, Leslie Douglas; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Tanner; brothers, Richard, James and Robert Mattox and sister, Bernice Douglas.
