Lexington – Marcia Denise Hairston Shrout, 49, passed away Saturday October 5th, 2019 after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 13th, 1970 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Donald and Joy Dotson Hairston. Marcia graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, West Virginia and attended Morehead State University graduating with multiple honors and degrees. She was a member of Kappa Delta while at Morehead. She began her working career in 1993 at Morehead State in the Housing Department. In 1997 she began working for the University of Kentucky which would span over 2 decades. She served the university in many roles with the Department of Resident Life including Associate Director of Resident Life. Marcia served as Director of the Joe B. Hall Wildcat Lodge serving 3 different coaching staffs. She finished her career at UK as the Director of Special Programs for Student Academic Support. Marcia is survived by her husband of 23 years, Michael Shrout, several cousins, uncles, and thousands of friends and working colleagues. Funeral services will be Wednesday October 9th, 2019 at 7PM at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4PM until the time of services.
