Marcus Bennett, 88, of St. Petersburg, passed away May 1, 2014. Born in Bergenfield, New Jersey on August 19, 1925, Marcus was a combat wounded and decorated WWII veteran. He proudly served in the United States Army Infantry. Marcus received numerous medal commendations for bravery, holding a key strategic position, despite being greatly outnumbered and under fire by the enemy. After the war, he attended Rutgers University and earned his Bachelor's degree in business. He then married his wife Ursula in 1953. Marcus and his family moved to St Petersburg in 1957. He was a longtime member of Congregation B'nai Israel. He enjoyed making people laugh and seeing the lighter side of life. Marcus is survived by his three children: Paul, Frank, Karen and three granddaughters: Olivia, Liana, and Nikka. He was predeceased by his wife Ursula in 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Friday, May 2nd at the David C. Gross Funeral Home in St Petersburg. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Largo. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Marcus to the Menorah Manor Foundation. David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Central Avenue Chapel in St. Petersburg is serving the family.
