MARDELLE ELAINE SPRINGER DEAN – Mardelle “Mardi” Dean, 79, died following a prolonged illness November 4, 2021, at Fairfax hospital. She was born September 17, 1942, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Burdell Leonard and Marjorie Lucile (Cuthbertson) Springer. Mardi graduated from Washington-Lee High School, class of 1960. Following graduation, she attended the University of Tampa and Strayer University, earning an Associate degree. After college, she married her high school sweetheart, Jonathan C. Dean, and they settled in Arlington, Virginia. Her husband, Jon, of 39 years died in 2002. For more than 20 years Mardi helped new parents by teaching breastfeeding and the joys of parenting. She taught classes at local hospitals and schools and was a featured speaker at conferences and workshops throughout the nation. Mardi thought every day was a gift, and appreciated her many friends during her active life. She loved her family and treated everyone with hospitality and kindness as part of her extended family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Delmar. Surviving are her three sons, Bradley Dean, and his wife, Amber, of Aldie, Virginia; Brian Dean, and his wife, Gina, of Falls Church, Virginia; and Jeremy Dean, and his wife Erin, of Prince Frederick, Maryland; eight grandchildren, Taylor Dean, Chandler Dean, Collin Dean, Katelynn Dean, Kristen Dean, Jillian Dean, Jonathan Dean, and Jason Dean; as well as many nieces and nephews. The immediate family will have a private remembrance for Mardi per her wishes. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite charity in her name is welcome.
