Margaret Corman was born in Carlisle, Kentucky, December 16, 1915. She lived her childhood years in Southern Indiana. She attended University of Louisville and University of Kentucky, and spent her working career in U. S. Civil Service in Washington, D.C., serving in various federal departments and foreign locations. She joined the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during WW II and served in the European Theater of Operations, achieving the rank of Senior Warrant Officer. Margaret was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church/USA and was active for many years in the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., teaching in the church school and singing in the choir. She was active in the Civil Rights Movement during those years, participating with her church and other churches in the final day of the Civil Rights March from Selma to Montgomery; she was also active in the Poor People's Campaign in Washington, D.C. Margaret retired to Santa Barbara in 1978 and became active in church and community affairs. She was a volunteer at Transition House for 25 years. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Santa Barbara. Gifts in her memory may be given to Transition House and to First United Methodist Church of Santa Barbara. A memorial service will be held at The Samarkand Retirement Community, 2550 Treasure Drive, in the Mountain Room, on August 18, 2012 at 2:30 PM.
