Margaret May Fleming
May 12th, 1918 - January 14th, 2012
Margaret May Fleming, 93, of Citrus Heights, CA, passed away Saturday, January 14th, in Citrus Heights. Margaret was born in Tacoma, WA on May 12, 1918, a daughter of the late Lilly May (Barnett) and Albert Louis Lemieux. Margaret married Thomas Fleming on January 30, 1941 at her parent's home in Tacoma, WA. Thomas was in the U.S. Army. Margaret lived in Tacoma until he returned home after the war as a Lt. Col. Thomas worked in the lumber industry and in December of 1966 they moved to Amador County, where Thomas worked at American Forest Products in Martell. She followed him throughout their lives as he followed his work and they moved many times over the years. Later they traveled throughout the United States and beyond to see many sights and gather material for Margaret's art and Thomas's photography. When Margaret was in high school she loved painting, drawing and performed in operettas. She and Thomas sang at church regularly. She created beautiful artwork throughout her life, and later in life was a professional artist. Many of her pieces could be found in local galleries and in Carmel, CA. She took great pride in working with other artists to set up and work at the art exhibit at the Amador County Fair. Margaret won many prizes for her art at the Fair and her work appeared in the prestigious California State Fair art exhibit. She was interviewed on local television and spent much time on special art projects throughout the area. She had a deep love for her family and helped them often in many ways. She was a Girl Scout and 4H leader. She had a deep personal relationship with her grandchildren. She could be counted on for pies at Thanksgiving, cookies at Christmas, and dinner every Sunday. When family lived far away, the grandkids received invitations for annual visits, and it was certain that if the kids were at Grandma's house, they were well taken care of. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Golden Star Chapter #66, Amador County Artists Association, Friends of the Library, Northern California Artists and Watercolor Artists of Sacramento Horizons. Margaret is survived by her husband of 70 years, Thomas; daughter, Margaret, and her husband, Richard Snider, of Rancho Cordova; grandchildren; Thomas James Alvi, Adrian Javid Alvi, Sonia Simone Alvi Weaver, Shanti Sueshelle Alvi Landon, Shannon Megan Hanrahan Hay; 15 great grandchildren, and nephew, Robert Bussey. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy May Hanrahan. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Friday, January 20, 2012, 2:00 PM at Daneri Mortuary Chapel, Jackson, CA.
