Margaret Leona Hall Mrs. Hall, 98, of Oak Island, NC, died November 24, 2009. She was born March 12, 1911 in Charlotte, NC, daughter of Harriett Flanagan and Thomas B. Christenbury. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Candler Hall and five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her daughters, Harriett H. Witherspoon and Cynthia H. Streib and her husband, Jim; grandchildren, David H. Witherspoon and his wife, Lisa, Teresa W. Burgess and her husband, Joe, Michael J. Witherspoon, Eric M. Sexton and his wife, Ai; great-grandchildren, Amber Becraft, Carter and Gracie Burgess, Victoria, Rachael, Megan, and Emily Witherspoon and numerous nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate her life will be 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2009 in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service with Mrs. Hall?s nephew, Reverend Dwight Christenbury officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 on Saturday afternoon prior to the funeral service. Her calling in life was to nurture and care for her family, friends, and neighbors. They also were there for her in her time of need. Our mother knew no boundaries in opening her home at the coast. Her love for others came in many forms- nursing the sick, preparing wonderful meals, passing along her favorite plants and flowers to those who shared the passion. She was the oldest member of her church, Oak Island Presbyterian Church. Her friends were young and old, and she shared her life with everyone she met, and made us laugh often. Our mother stood strong and true for all her wonderful life. We sincerely thank all her friends and family for their love and affection and to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter for their gentle service. Memorials may be sent to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.

Our services are crafted to honor your loved ones in ways that are both deeply meaningful and healing. Our rich history began in 1946 when Irvin W. Hankins and James B. Whittington took the reins of the Crouch Funeral Home. The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity....
